Planning

If you're planning to visit Petra from Amman, I have outlined some essential information on how to get there, approximate costs, and how long to spend in Petra to see the major sites:

Organised Tours:
Many tour operators in Amman offer day trips to Petra, including transportation, a guide, and sometimes lunch. The cost varies depending on the inclusions and quality of the tour, but it typically ranges from 60-100 JOD per person.
Duration in Petra:
A whole day is advisable, as this will give you sufficient time to explore the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh), the Siq (narrow gorge), the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, the Theater, and possibly hike up to the Monastery (Ad-Deir). If you have limited time, a half-day visit is also possible, but you might need to prioritise specific sites.
Costs within Petra:
Entrance Fee: The entrance fee to Petra is quite substantial, as it is one of Jordan's most famous attractions. The entrance fee for a day visit was 50 JOD per person. However, it's always a good idea to check for updated prices, which may change over time.
Guides: Hiring a local guide is optional but recommended to enhance your experience and learn about the history and significance of the various sites. Guide fees vary, but you can expect to pay around 50-70 JOD for a guided tour, depending on the duration and level of service.

Remember that prices can change over time, so checking the latest information is essential before planning your trip. Additionally, consider carrying some cash (Jordanian Dinars) as credit card acceptance may be limited.

As I said my goodbyes to this archaeological treasure, I felt a deeper appreciation for the ingenuity and legacy of the ancient civilisations that once thrived within its walls.

While wandering through the ancient city, I was mesmerised by the intricate architecture carved into the pink sandstone cliffs. The Treasury, the Monastery, and the numerous tombs all whispered tales of a bygone era, reminding me of humanity's resilience and ingenuity.

Standing amidst the ruins, I felt immense gratitude for the opportunity to witness such a remarkable testament to human creativity and the preservation of our cultural heritage. Petra is a true gem that will forever be etched in my heart.
